    Denyvetta Davis is a retired administrator with the Metropolitan Library System in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Denyvetta was the system’s first African American administrator serving as Director of Library Operations supervising 19 libraries serving citizens of Oklahoma county.

    Prior to this position, Denyvetta served as Manager of the prestigious Ralph Ellison Library where she received numerous local, state, and national awards/honors for her professional and community service including being named as one of ALA’s Visionary Leader, winner of John Cotton Dana Public Relations Award, the Oklahoma Governor’s Art Award for Community Service and the Ralph Ellison Person of Distinction Award. She recently received the 2018 Cultural Connection Award for outstanding contributions in the preservation of our culture through the Arts and Humanities.

    Denyvetta is the co-author of Ralph Ellison: A Biography with Bob Burke, a noted Oklahoma historian; she wrote the forward for These Words, A Collection of Verse by the Society of Urban Poets, and she is the editor of What’s in a Name: Footprints of African American Trailblazers Publicly Honored in OKC written by Bettye Wedgeworth. She is currently working on two projects to be released in 2018 and 2020.

    Her extensive nonprofit management experience includes Leadership OKC and various leadership roles within the Oklahoma City community. She recently graduated from the Salt and Light Leadership Training (SALLT) program.

    Denyvetta is a Life Member of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, a member of ALA, EMIERT (CSK Book Award Committee), IRRT, LLAMA, and PLA.  She has traveled extensively and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

    She has a bachelor’s in business administration and master’s in Instructional Media from the University of Central Oklahoma. Denyvetta also has a master’s in library science from Atlanta University with additional study at the University of Oklahoma.
