Take a day to heal from the lies you’ve been told and the ones you’ve told yourself.
— Dr. Maya Angelou

Community Healing Days 2017

Black people are resilient, but centuries of living with the burden of the lies of White superiority and Black inferiority have left Black communities in the United States and around the world in emotional distress--and in need of emotional healing.

Community Healing Days/Wear Sky Blue Days is annual celebration, on the third weekend of every October, designed to put “time for healing” at the top of the Black community’s agenda.

The goals of the celebration are to:

1) raise awareness of the root causes of the devaluing of Black lives: the lies of White superiority and Black inferiority

2) encourage Black people to take the time, as the late Dr. Maya Angelou, Founding Chair of Community Healing Network’s Board of Advisors, said, “to heal from the lies that have been told to us and the ones we’ve told ourselves.”

On September 13, 2010, Dr. Angelou issued a Call to Healing urging people everywhere to join together in a simple, but powerful, act of solidarity during Community Healing Days–to Wear Sky Blue “to show our collective determination to turn the pain of the blues into the sky blue of unlimited possibilities.”

This year, on October 20, 21, and 22, 2017, put “time for healing” on your agenda.

Take a stand for emotional emancipation from the lies of White superiority and Black inferiority.

Say “yes” to Dr. Angelou’s Call to Wear Sky Blue. On October 20, 21, and 22, Community Healing Days 2017℠, Wear Sky Blue℠. Post photos of yourself in sky blue on your social media pages and websites to show your commitment to moving “beyond the pain of the blues to the sky blue of unlimited possibilities.” And send us photos of yourself and your family and friends in sky blue

The year 2019 will be the 400th anniversary o the forced arrival of Africans at Virginia colony in the United States. CHN's aim is to engage a critical mass of Black people in the journey toward emotional emancipation by 2019, so that by the year 2020 we as a people will begin to see ourselves in a whole new light. Four hundred years of negative stereotypes of Black people must be overcome and overturned. It is well past time for us and our children to be completely free.

As James Baldwin said, “we are trapped in history and history is trapped in us.” To which we at Community Healing Network say, “and we are escaping. Come with us.”

Wear Sky Blue℠ during Community Healing Days℠ 2017, October 20, 21, and 22, and share your Sky Blue photos with us at info@communityhealingnet.org
